I have a confession to make: I’m geographically challenged. It’s a family trait, really—my mother could get lost going around the block, and I’ve proudly (or not-so-proudly) inherited her knack for getting turned around. Even after two decades here, GPS is my constant companion. Without it, who knows where I’d end up? Probably trying to sell a house in the Everglades!
One Sunday afternoon, I had to meet a potential client in Baltimore. Simple enough, right? Except road construction and detours were everywhere. Even GPS couldn’t keep up. What should’ve been a quick drive turned into two hours of frustration. I kept calling my client, apologizing profusely as I tried to follow the endless maze of detours. Thankfully, she was incredibly gracious.
By the time I arrived, I was frazzled but determined. I powered through my listing presentation, and the client and I bonded. But then came the real challenge: finding my way home.
Another four hours. Between missed freeway exits, tunnel detours (I hate tunnels—they might as well be underwater), and the growing darkness, I was completely lost, starving, and alone. By the time I finally stumbled into my house, I was exhausted.
Then I saw a message from my client: “You’ve got the listing. I’m geographically challenged too—I understand what you went through.” Day saved!
That experience is a reminder that even when things go completely sideways, kindness and connection can turn it all around. It also confirmed what I already knew—Realtors are superheroes, but even superheroes need a good GPS.
